Design objects are considered by many as something for the few who can afford them or something good to be displayed in a museum. The purpose of design is the opposite, and the creative process behind the conception of a design object is actually the one behind any project, not just an artistic one. The Lab, promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (Italy) and PAFF! is conceived to release ideas and enhance the creativity of the most talented and underrated designers on Earth: ourselves. Participants will discover how to organize their intuitions and bring them to life, shaping them into real objects that will be ready to inhabit our everyday life and fill our days with emotions.

The Lab path is structured in 4 modules:

A for Artistic Self-portrait (15 minutes): knowing yourself is the first step to getting to know the world (activity: from a figurative self-portrait to an abstract self-portrait on cardboard)

B for BRUNO MUNARI & HARRY BERTOIA, GAE AULENTI, PIERO CASTIGLIONI (20 minutes): getting inspired by the method invented by the designer who also changed the teaching method and the way we look at children’s literature, we try to analyse with awareness the work of Harry Bertoia, Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni (activity: projection of suggestive slides and videos, followed by practical exercises).

C for CITY (30 minutes): telling about one’s city and looking at one’s city with different eyes are the turning point for creating something that doesn’t exist but should be there (activity: emotional map of the city and creation of a surrealistic building).

D for DESIGN (55 minutes): thanks to the approach and the knowledge gained in this path, we create our own design projects (activity: creation of the working paper prototype of a lamp and a paper building).
